Over 50 years with working dogs
The Halsted family has been deeply involved in the working dog world for more than five decades. Breeding, training and competing with dogs has always been a major part of family life — and that experience sits behind Halsted Foods today.
John Halsted
John’s interest in dogs began at a very young age. He got his first dog at six years old and, following in his father’s footsteps, went on to breed, train and compete with working dogs.
In 1987 John entered his first competition and took first place. He first qualified for the IGL Retriever Championship in 1992 and went on to become the first person to qualify for 25 consecutive years.
John has also been a longstanding member of the England international gundog team, which has enjoyed success on numerous occasions.

John’s father, John Halsted Snr, entered the field-trial world in 1968. Sandra later began competing alongside him and the pair built an exceptional record within the sport.
Both became A Panel Judges and have judged the IGL Retriever Championship. Sandra won the Retriever Championship in 1979 and has also represented England as part of successful international gundog teams.
John Snr is best known for his Labradors, but has competed successfully with a variety of gundog breeds including Flatcoated Retrievers, Golden Retrievers and English Springer Spaniels.
